Dear APISD Parents and Guardians,
Faulk Elementary conducted a LOCKDOWN drill today, September 3rd, 2026. During the LOCKDOWN drill, all exterior and interior doors remained locked, and no one could leave or enter the building. APISD works in cooperation with APPD when conducting LOCKDOWN drills. LOCKDOWN drills are always announced as a drill.
Drills are for staff and students, and are educational opportunities to practice life safety skills. We encourage you to talk with your child about today’s LOCKDOWN drill. Law enforcement officials who conducted the drill for us stated that our staff and students did an amazing job in completing the drill.
What is the LOCKDOWN Action?
The LOCKDOWN Action is called when there is a threat or hazard inside the school building. LOCKDOWN uses classroom and school security actions to protect students and staff from the threat. During LOCKDOWN, students and staff move out of the line of sight of corridor windows, lights are turned off to make the room seem unoccupied, and occupants of rooms maintain silence.
Examples of LOCKDOWN Conditions
The following are some examples of when a school or emergency dispatch might call for a LOCKDOWN Action.
Dangerous animal within a school building
Intruder
An angry or violent parent, student, or other individual
Report of a weapon
Active assailant

days of school as students and staff learn and practice our routines. We promise—it will
get faster! Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding. Our number one
priority during dismissal is making sure every child gets home safely. We appreciate your
help in following these procedures.
To ensure the safest and most efficient dismissal process for our students, NO PARENT
WALKUP THIS YEAR. Parents will remain in their cars and staff will assist your child to
your car. This will ensure we reduce traffic and congestion and are not walking between
cars as we dismiss. Again, this to ensure all students are safely in their cars and reduce
traffic.
